Lamp PostBanner Design
Areas of work
Advocacy | Design | Marketing & Promotion | Project Management | Town Centre RegenerationSummary
In 2006, volunteers organising the Drovers’ Tryst walking festival were told banners on lamp posts were not allowed on trunk roads, limiting promotional opportunities. Ailsa worked with the Scottish Government to change the policy, enabling banners on lighting columns in High Streets—even when designated as trunk roads.
She designed the banners, mapped out their locations across Crieff, and coordinated production and installation with local contractors. Later, in 2014, she led another banner campaign tied to major events happening that summer: the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and a royal visit, updating the visuals again in 2021 and 2024.
DIFFERENCE MADE
Ailsa’s advocacy not only changed national policy but helped Crieff improve its visibility and civic pride over a 19-year period. The banners became part of the town’s identity, boosting event promotion, enhancing the streetscape and supporting local economic activity.
